Welcome!
The University of Texas at Dallas GeoClub is a registered student organization devoted to promote geoscience awareness and knowledge within the University and the general community.
(show/hide rest of welcome message)
The GeoClub meets twice monthly in room FO 2.604 during each full-term semester. Free pizza is served and a topic relating to the geosciences is discussed. Speakers at the meetings usually include geoscience students who are actively involved in research, professors, visiting scientists and professional geologists/geophysicists.
All members are encouraged to participate in GeoClub and UTD activities. GeoClub also encourages geo-students to become student members of geology related organizations, such as the Geological Society of America (GSA), American Geophysical Union (AGU), Association of Women Geoscientists (AWG), Dallas Geological Society (DGS) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).

March 2008

- Galen Treadgold, the geophysicist from Weinman GeoScience has offered to open up his rock shop for UTD GeoClubbers this Saturday the 8th: Those that are still interested on going to Galen's rock and mineral shop, we are meeting this Saturday the 8th at 9:15 am in the west parking lot of UTD. We are leaving at 9:30 am, because he wants all of us there by 10 am. It is by Addison airport so that will be plenty of enough time to get there. If for some reason you want to go and can't meet at school here is the address: Address is: 3228 Skylane in Carrollton. Skylane is off Midway rd, North of Keller Springs and South of Trinity Mills.Take Keller Springs West from Preston towards the tollway, thru the Addison toll tunnel to Midway. Take a right on Midway. When you turn on Skylane (which will be a left turn) the warehouse is 200 yards west of Midway on the south side of the street (So the warehouse will be on the left)
- We will have a series of GeoClub meetings at lunch time when we return from spring break. There will be one on the 18th, 21st, and 25th of March. The candidates for department head will be speaking at these meetings. Students will be encouraged to ask these candidates questions during these times. There will also be corresponding department seminars given by each of the candidates while they are here at UTD. I will provide more information on these events as the meetings come closer.
- On March 22nd GeoClub will have two events happening simultaneously. The first is our Day Trip to go fossil hunting. If you want to come along on this trip please get in touch with me or Michele Kashouh. Secondly, the service organization, Alpha Phi Omega has asked GeoClub to teach the geology merit badge to members of The Boy Scouts of America on the 22nd. We are looking for volunteers for this event as well. Contact me or Brian Burnham for more information on this.
